An aspheric lens is a single element optical component with one aspheric convex surface and one plano or sperical convex surface. Characterized by f-numbers less than 10, aspheres provide maximum energy throughput over a limited path length. Although not designed for imaging applications, they are ideal for use in illumination systems where it is often necessary to collect and/or focus as much light as possible.
